If you fractured both of your hands and couldn't do hair, apply make-up or sculpt a nail, how would you pay your bills?

What is a fracture?  According to the dictionary, a fracture is the breaking of a bone, cartilage or the like; to break or crack.

I received a text the other day from a stylist that mentioned to me that she fractured both of her hands. My 1st thought was OMG both of her hands? Then it was, how did she manage to do that? And last thought was, how is she gonna pay her bills? As you can see, there were quite a few things that made me go hmmmmm from this 1 text. Then I started thinking, this could happen to anyone and how would they be able to pay their bills?

It's great to know that she will eventually heal from the fractures but how long will she not be able to use her hands? Depending on how severe the fractures are, it could be weeks or even months. Does she have a savings that will sustain her lifestyle? Does she have a significant other that is capable of maintaining her lifestyle? Perhaps, did she sign up for Disability Insurance in case something like this happened?

If you were in this situation and could answer yes to any of the questions listed above, lucky you. You are definitely the minority. However, the majority cannot say the same. As entrepreneurs, we must plan for the unexpected. I know it's rough as well as expensive to buy Health Insurance, Car Insurance, Business Insurance, etc but how many think about Disability Insurance? Although I don't have a specific company to recommend, I would like to recommend that all artist, whether a Stylist, Make-Up Artist, or Nail Tech  look into it. You just never know.

Let's be prepared moving forward. If procrastination is stopping you, let's kill that this year. If ignorance was stopping you, that's dead TODAY.
