I had someone asks me this question via email. I believe this was a great question. A great question because her thoughts are in the right place. She really wants to do better and service her clients in a new way. As an Artist in the Hair n Beauty Industry, you must stay on top of your game. Clients go to different Artists for different reasons. Don't let a great client slip away just because you didn't take two (2) seconds to follow-up with them. There are so many things that can be discovered during a follow-up call. A few reasons I found a follow-up call to be beneficial was:
1- The client wanted to book their next appointment right then and there
2- The client told you that they referred 5 people to you on the way home because they were stopped on the street
3- The client had an issue with their hair and you were able to squeeze them in right away before they blew up and bashed you all over the internet, lol. I'm laughing but it's so true. It happens.
So what do you say? Simply ask them how's their hair and how was their experience with you. You'd be amazed just how much those two (2) little questions can have an affect on the client and your business. 1st of all its a great gesture, 2- the client will feel special because most artists DO NOT take the time to do it, which leads us to 3- it makes you stand out from the rest, 4- it shows that you dare to be different and 5- it takes two (2) seconds to accomplish. Those two (2) seconds could change your business forever. So be encouraged and know, that even if they never sit in your chair again, it was a great gesture and should be common practice.
TIP- Follow-up calls should be made within 3-5 days. Lastly, write a script until you memorize it and then throw it away when you got it. It will then become 2nd nature and roll right off your tongue.
Once you start your follow-ups, keep me updated with the outcome. Until next time. ;)

Some of the best advertising is FREE advertising. Although Craigslist is FREE, it can also be tricky. I don't know anyone nowadays that doesn't know what Craigslist is but everyone doesn't necessarily know how to create an ad. According to Wikipedia, Craigslist is a centralized network of online communities, featuring free online classified advertisements. They have sections devoted to Beauty Services throughout the 50 states, as well as other countries. When starting a Craigslist Ad campaign, there are 7 things that you should consider and include in your ad.
1- POST UPDATED PICTURES
Include pictures of your own work. If you do not have pictures of your work, for God's sake, DO NOT steal other people's work and try to claim them as yours. If you do, be prepared to get called out. When including pictures, be sure to edit and label them. Tip- Every time you have a client, snap a picture. That way you can update the ad regularly.
2- POST UPDATED CONTACT INFO
Include every way possible a potential client can contact you. Make sure everything is in working order. DO NOT include disconnected numbers, websites that aren't live or old email addresses that you no longer use. Tip- This is the 1st view of your customer service. How well will you handle the 1st point of contact?
3-POST CATCHY PHRASES
Choose a phrase/title that will catch the attention of YOUR ideal client. Target your ads to a specific type of client. You will be much more productive that way.
4- BEWARE OF SPAMMERS
Hide your email address. There are sharks out there ready to steal and sell it. You do not want an inbox full of spammers trying to scam you or just fill your inbox with pure nonsense.
5- DISPLAY NO CATINESS
Refrain from bashing other Artists in your industry. It's very unprofessional and distasteful. Neither does it make you look any better. TIP- Focus on your skills and talents. Let them speak for themselves.
6- BUILD A MOMENTUM
Be consistent with your marketing. Momentum is key. It usually takes someone 7x to see something and to take action. When you think they're not watching, they usually are. TIP- Post at minimum of 1x a day.
7- PLACE AD IN SERVICES SECTION
Post in the business specific area. For Hair n Beauty, you should go to your state, services and beauty.
EXTRA- Add surrounding cities at the bottom of the ad so that other people may find you. Also, create multiple ads in order to switch things up bit.
