DID YOU MISS ME? Nah just kidding. It has been a really busy time since our last blog post. Lots of new and exciting things in the works and I can't wait for the time to come to share them with you. I really need you to forgive me for a late blog post, once again. I know, I know, I've said that once before but if you subscribe and comment, I will get to know who I'm speaking to. It's ok, I used to talk to my imaginary friends back in the day so I've had practice but I'm all grown up now. I like conversation.
In all seriousness, over the last 2 weeks, I've come across 2 new traditional extension alternatives which are very similar, created to serve the same agenda, for different ethnic groups and both at the fraction of the cost. Except, they were on 2 different platforms. One was seen on television and the other on Instagram. The one we'll discuss are the Secret Extensions and the second is "The Hookie Do".
Secret Extensions is the one that I discovered while watching television. It was not seen in the wee hours of the night as an infomercial but in the middle of the day. I literally stopped in my tracks, no point intended, when I saw the woman remove the extensions that were on an invisible head band. Yes, an invisible head band. It looked really good and natural too. However, although it was cool I knew right away that they were not marketing to me. As an Afro-American female, they would need to sell some secret extensions with some kinkiness to it, if you know what I mean, in order for me to make that purchase. Even though it wasn't for me I was still intrigued and headed over to their website. Once there, what I found is what I thought, straight hair for my white sisters. If you are a white or mixed sister, this is a great option for you. Just a few facts about secret extensions are: they are promoting "No Clips and No Glue", it costs $39.99 + S&H, is on an invisible headband, available in 11 multi-blended salon-inspired colors and there is a 30-day money back guarantee. If you think that this is a great alternative for you or you just want to check them out, head on over to www.secretextensions.com. <---Click Here
Now "The Hookie Do" is the one I discovered one night while scrolling down my timeline on Instagram. The word has spread so fast about this one, it's ridiculous. When @iamperez posted it on his page, @hookiedo only had a couple hundred followers. They are currently at over 8K followers now in just a lil over 2 weeks. That's the power of social media man. 1st thing I thought when I saw this was, I can do that. That is a great alternative when you're giving your hair a breather in between traditional Sew-Ins. It is similar to a wig cap but with attached hooks. My next question was, how the wefts would hook onto the cap? Did we have to buy hooks now to put on our extensions? Nope, that's not the case. The wefts actually hook directly onto the hooks. The amazing thing about this is the versatility of being able to switch up different textures and colors. A few facts about "The Hookie Do" are: it is still pending patent, they are rasing money in order to fund the product, she is promoting "No Needle, No Glue", it was going for $45 but I'm not sure how much it is now, and it's on a removable cap with hooks. If you think that this is a great alternative for you or you just want to check them out, head on over to www.kickstarter.com. <--- Click Here.
When I decided to write about the 2 new weaving options, I really wanted to know how this would in fact help or hurt all of our Extension Specialists in the world. These are 2 great options for those with lil or no time to sit in the salon for hours, they are a fraction of the costs of traditional weaves, there isn't any tension on the edges, and so on. On the flip side, they both are in my opinion, not as secure as other extension alternatives. There is always a fear that your hair can be lying on the ground because someone snatched it off or it simply fell off. If you are a Hair Stylist, better yet an Extension Specialist, what are your thoughts on the matter. Does this pose a threat to your business or nah?
